• "If you know me, you will know my Father also." {John 14:7}
Jesus imitated God's love, and reflected God's personality. By studying Christ's personality, thoughts, feelings and actions, we come to know God more intimately. Know Jesus Christ, and you will know God better.
• “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." {John 14:6}
To approach God and be received by Him, we must go "through" Jesus Christ. This means worshiping God in the same manner as Jesus, in the same way. "I am the way", Christ said. We must copy Christ's ways, his way of thinking, feeling and being. Christ showed us the way to worship God.
• "For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done." {John 13:15}
God wants us to be close to Him. To help us, God sent Jesus to give us examples on how to draw closer to Him. If we follow Jesus' examples, if we think as he did, feel as he did, and act as he did, we will draw closer to God and gain His love like Jesus did.
• As he was speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.” {Matthew 17:5}
Jesus had God's approval, and God was well pleased with him. Jesus knows what qualities make God joyful. We must listen to Christ as he teaches us the qualities God is looking for in those serving Him, that we too may gain God's approval, and have Him be pleased with us also.
• "Come to me, all who are weary and heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find refreshment for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my load is light.” {Matthew 11:28-30}
Jesus does not ask very much of us. His instructions are truly simple to follow. And they are refreshing, for they will lead us out of this wearisome world of pains and troubles, and into God's refreshing kingdom paradise.
• "This is my instruction: that you love one another as I have loved you." {John 15:12}
Christ's most important instruction to us is to love one another as he loved us. Let us learn how Christ loved us, that we may imitate him.
• "Unselfishly do good for others." {John 15:12 - footnote}
This scripture uses the Greek word "agape", which means showing love for others through acts of kindness. It means being kind to others, doing kind deeds, and helping people in kind ways.
